Test Yourself

Who is the game for?

  • Anyone who wants to learn their tables out of order

  • Anyone who wants to find out which facts they know, and which they need to learn!

What you need

  • A set of Flipp Flopps

  • A piece of paper

  • A pencil or pen

How to play

  • Choose the tables facts you want to learn

  • Place the Flipp Flopps on the paper, with the questions face up

  • Make sure you have enough room to write the answer next to each question

  • Start at the top and write the answers on the paper next to the questions 

  • Then flip over the question sheet to reveal the answers

  • Line up the answers on the Flipp Flopps with the answers you have written

  • Mark your answers

  • Note any incorrect answers and those you were unsure of

  • Try some Top Tips to make the facts stick in your mind

  • Test yourself again – see if you can remember the facts more easily!

 

 

Top Ten

Who is the game for?

  • A group of ten or more players

  • Anyone who knows their tables out of order and wants to get quicker

What you need

  • A set of Flipp Flopps each

  • A piece of paper for each player

  • A pencil or pen for each player

  • Someone to be a top ten judge (a teacher is a good choice!)

How to play

  • The Judge chooses a set of tables facts that all players must answer

  • Players  place the appropriate Flipp Flopp on paper and prepare to write their answers

  • On the Judge’s signal all players begin writing their answers as quickly as possible

  • As soon as a player finishes they raise their hand silently

  • The Judge indicates whether a player has finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc by raising the correct number of fingers

  • Players check their answers, and are disqualified if their answers are incorrect

  • Players play again, trying to improve their ranking in the top ten

 

 

Beat the Clock

Who is the game for?

  • Any number of players

  • Anyone who knows their tables out of order and wants to get quicker

What you need

  • A set of Flipp Flopps each

  • A piece of paper for each player

  • A pencil or pen for each player

  • A timer with digital display, showing seconds

How to play

  • Players  place the appropriate Flipp Flopp on paper and prepare to write their answers

  • As soon as the timer is started players begin writing their answers as quickly as possible

  • As soon as a player finishes they look at the timer and write down the time shown

  • Players check their answers, and add ten seconds to their time for each incorrect answer

  • Players play again, trying to improve their time

Variations

  • Each player keeps a record of their best time for each table

  • Keep class records for the fastest time in each table

  • Set time challenges eg beat 60seconds, 30seconds, 15seconds

 

 

Racing a Partner

Who is the game for?

  • Two players

  • Anyone who knows their tables out of order and wants to get quicker

What you need

  • A set of Flipp Flopps each

  • A piece of paper for each player

  • A pencil or pen for each player

How to play

  • Each player chooses a set of tables

  • Players  place the appropriate Flipp Flopp on paper and prepare to write their answers

  • The older player says ‘Ready, Go’ and both players begin writing their answers as quickly as possible

  • Players place their pencil on the table as soon as they have finished. The first player to finish scores 5 points

  • Players check their answers, and award themselves a mark for each correct answer
